Our automated and process-controlled heat treatment systems ensure high levels of process reliability and reproducibility. In conjunction with our innovative order management system and process control systems, we are able to guarantee the full depth of documentation and archiving. Our aviation-certified heat treatment systems are constantly monitored by the AMS 2750 specifications and documented in detail. This enables us to offer maximum quality standards while complying with the prescribed standards and regulations concerning the heat treatments you order.
Moreover, our customers receive full documentation of the heat treatment order including the associated heat treatment diagrams.
NADCAP certification is required for performing heat treatment in the field of aerospace engineering. Successful NADCAP certification is hence necessary before it is possible to operate as a supplier or manufacturer in the aerospace sector. NADCAP certification is audited and monitored by the PRI (Performance Review Institute). NADCAP stands for ‘National Aerospace and Defense Contractor Accreditation Program’. NADCAP certification is performed in various divisions of the aviation industry, arranged and divided into so-called task groups. NADCAP task groups comprise:
- Aerospace quality systems – based on the AC7004 checklist
- Chemical Processing – based on the AC7108, AC7108/1 and AC7108/2 checklists
- Coatings – based on the AC7109 checklist
- Composites – based on the AC7118 checklist
- Elastomer Seals – based on the AC7115 series of checklists
- Electronics – based on the AC7119, AC7120 and AC7121 checklists
- Fasteners – based on the AC7113 series of checklists
- Fluids Distribution – based on the AC7112 series of checklists and AC7123
- Heat Treating – based on the AC7102 series of checklists
- Materials Testing Laboratory – based on the AC7101, AC7101/1-9, AC7101/11 and AC7006 checklists
- Nondestructive Testing – based on the AC7114 series of checklists
- Nonconventional Machining and Surface Enhancement – based on the AC7116 and AC7117 series of checklists
- Sealants – based on the SAE standard AS7200/1, AS7201 and AC7202
- Welding – based on the AC7110 series of checklists
For example, VTN Witten GmbH is certified for the ‘Heat Treating’ task group. Auditing is performed on the basis of a special auditor question checklist (AC stands for ‘auditor checklist’). In this case it is a process audit (AC 7102).
AC 7004 Aerospace Quality System (AQS)
General quality audit for aerospace (similar to DIN EN 9100). The requirement for AQS auditing is successful certification in accordance with, for example, DIN EN 9001 or comparable quality audits. At AQS, operational quality management is inspected in accordance with aerospace norms and standards.
AC 7102 Heat Treating (HT)
The basis of this audit is auditor checklist AC 7102, which is a process audit. The American AMS 2750 norm is the applicable standard for the heat treatment task group. This standard sets out the pyrometric requirements regarding the precision of the measuring and control systems, temperature distribution/uniformity in the furnaces, and the instrumentation/classification of the heat treatment systems. In the course of the audit, the available plants and machinery are monitored to ascertain whether they are actually capable of producing and machining components for the aerospace industry. In addition to the requirements of AMS 2750, customer-specified requirements, standards and specifications are also audited and their compliance checked.
AMS 2750 forms the basis of successful NADCAP certification within the heat treatment task group. This American standard (Aerospace Material Specification) sets out the pyrometric requirements regarding the precision of the measuring and control systems, temperature distribution/uniformity in the furnaces, and the instrumentation/classification of the heat treatment systems.
PRI (Performance Review Institute)
The PRI is the superordinate organization that performs NADCAP accreditation and NADCAP audits. Until now, there is no other organization in the world that is permitted to perform NADCAP certification. Hence the PRI currently has the monopoly in issuing and carrying out NADCAP certifications.
DIN EN ISO certifications
Since 2011, VTN Witten GmbH is also certified in accordance with EN 9100 Quality Management Systems – Requirements for Aviation, Space and Defence Organizations.
This additional quality seal underlines our capability as a reliable and qualified supplier for our customers in the aerospace industry.
The previous NADCAP AQS (Aerospace Quality System) certification laid the foundation for an internationally recognized certification standard. The EN 9100 standard, which was developed by the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) is based in terms of its content and structure on the industry-independent DIN EN ISO 9001 standard and also contains amendments and interpretations aimed at the specific needs and requirements of the aerospace industry. These include the incorporation of aviation authorities’ quality management demands, the introduction of a configuration management process appropriate to the product, the First Article Inspection (FAI), risk analysis, verification and traceability, and the determination of eligibilities, particularly for clearances/releases.
Our sites are certified in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 by virtue of their consistent implementation of our objectives.
The VTN Group conducts environmental protection on its own initiative and its own responsibility, and the majority of its sites are certified in accordance with ISO 14001:2015.
